Blog Assignment 7 (Joke videos)

Nate's version of the video was unable to be posted because blogger rejected it.

Blog Assignment 7 (Joke videos)

These are the two videos that our group did for a project in class.  The two videos are both based off of the same joke that can be seen near the end of both videos.  These videos are both similar in the ways that they both follow the same basic story line.  They are also similar because the ending scenes to both are almost exactly the same.  Another main similarity is the use of SPACE in the videos.  Except for maybe one or two scenes the spaces in the videos are very close together.  The scenes that differ with space are in Alex's version of the video which has a scene inside of the car which gives the closest and smallest amount of space other than when he is under the stairs.  A difference in the videos is the use of Rhythm.  In Nate's version of the video every time there is a scene change the character walks out of the scene and into another scene.  This creates the rhythm of the characters story moving from place to place.  Another difference is the use of Line in Nate's version.  The character's eye line points towards the camera.  It then turns to a first person point of view showing where that line goes, which is towards the guests sitting at the table.

Blog Assignment 5-B

This is a Link to a clip from trainspotting, it wasn't working when I tried to embed it onto the blog so you'll have to go to youtube to see it and this is my critique of it:

Blog Assignment 5-A

The first image seen here is the re-frame of the second image.  This image is a painting made by the artist Salvador Dali.  For this assignment we had to take one of the images from the sound-scape projects and re-frame them in some way.  For this I cropped the photo and rounded the edges of it with white.  I was drawn to the original photo because when it comes to Dali's work, there are a lot of crazy things happening in each picture and they are always fun to look at.  I chose to re-frame this picture in the way that I did because it changes the direction that the picture is going, and because it take out most of the craziness that happens when looking at the whole thing.  The framing of it also makes you focus more intensely on the elephant which is barely noticeable in the original picture.  I think that Salvador Dali framed the picture in the way that he did because he wanted the eyes of the viewer to focus on all of the things that are happening in it instead of just focusing on just one, or even two things.  One of the main things that was changed by the reframing was the line of the picture.  In the original the lines move in several different directions, such as towards the girl and to the left across the top.  In the re-framed picture the line simply goes to the left across the top.  The elephants trunk points that way and leads your eyes in that direction.  Another thing that changes was the visual movement and rhythm.  In the re-framed picture if at all it seems that the elephant is just walking across the picture to the left side.  In the original picture there is much more movement.  The fish is jumping out of a pomegranate and a tiger is jumping out of the fish towards the girl.  There is also another tiger jumping at her, and of course there is the elephant still walking on the top.  The space in the re-framed picture did not seem very deep at all.  It seemed as though after the elephant the space did not go on very much at all.  In the first picture the space seems like it goes on a lot farther past everything that you can see.  Some affinity is obvious between the two because of the elephant but the contrast is much greater because there are a lot more crazy things happening in the original pictures.  In the original there is a lot of tension because the tigers are diving at the woman and the gun is also pointing at her.  In the re-framed one there is pretty much none what so ever

Blog assignment 4A

Here is a link to an article that we read for class.  In this article Seth Godin discusses seven layers of reinventing yourself.  He begins the article by saying that our culture pushes us to be average and tells us how to lead average lives and that something needs to be done to break this "Brainwashing".  Then Godin presents his seven layers which are: Connect, Be Generous, Make Art, Acknowledge the Lizard, Ship, Fail, and Learn.  For this assignment we were asked to discuss two of the seven layers.  One that we choose and the layer about acknowledging the lizard.  The layer that I chose to discuss is Connect.  This layer is about how with the media today it is possible (and important) to connect with the entire world through different types of media.  I think that this is very important because I have been raised to believe that the most important thing you can do in the world is know a lot of people and that it isn't what you know it is who you know.  Connections can help people get jobs in the future and can help your chances at things a lot.  This layer relates to this blog that we have to write in many ways.  First of all it is on the internet for anyone to see and can connect me with anyone in the world.  This layer can help people with their various art forms in many ways.  First of all it can get them seen, from there it can be passed from person to person until virtually everyone knows about it.  The layer titled "Acknowledging the Lizard" is much different from the other layers.  It talks about the "Lizard Brain" which is something inside of all of us that keeps us from doing things that could potentially embarrass us.  This one is actually very interesting to me because I agree with it very much.  Sometimes the main reason that we do assignments for classes or refrain from doing to things that we really want to do is because we feel that the teacher will be angry with us or nobody will like what we are creating.  Godin says that we have to acknowledge that the lizard is there in order to listen to it, and do things we need to, and ignore it and follow our own feelings.  This is seen many times in my blog because I hate to hear the sound of my own voice but we have to record ourselves several times but I do it anyway for the grade.
